The Trio Bet in Roulette
Roulette is a hugely popular casino game played by many people all over the world. The game involves spinning a wheel with a set of numbered and colored pockets in one direction, and setting a small, white ball onto the wheel, and making it spin in the opposite direction, until momentum causes them to stop spinning, and the ball to fall into a particular pocket. All roulette wheels have thirty-six pockets, numbered from one, to thirty-six, and arranged in alternating black and red colors.
Aside from the thirty-six black and red pockets, a European roulette wheel also has one green pocket, numbered zero. On the other hand, the American roulette wheel has two more pockets, numbered zero, and double zero. These zero pockets are also colored green, and in both the European and the American roulette wheels, the green pockets are often not counted when calculating for the payout of a particular bet. Even if these pockets aren't counted for the payout though, they still count against a gambler's odds against winning. This means that in relation to a person's chances to win, and how much a person might win, the casino possesses an advantage, which is also often called the house edge.
There are two main types of bets in roulette; inside bets, and outside bets. With an outside bet, a person wagers on whether or not the ball will land in an odd or even numbered pocket, in a red or black pocket, in a range of numbers in the roulette table. On the other hand an inside bet is slightly more specific. Inside bets include bets made on individual numbers, and on small sets of numbers grouped together according to how they have been arranged on the roulette table.
A Trio is a special kind of inside bet, in that it is practically the only bet that includes the green pockets on the American roulette wheel. A Trio bet is when a person bets on three numbers; zero or double zero, and the numbers that directly adjoin them. So on a Trio on zero, a person also bets on the numbers one and two; and on a Trio bet on double zero, is also on two and three. The odds against winning with a trio bet are 11.667 to one, and the payout for this kind of bet is eleven dollars to every dollar that a player puts in. This means that when a person wins, they get back eleven times the amount that they had bet, as well as the initial wager they had put in.
